“The Myth of Having It All Together (and Why You Don’t Need To)”

Let’s be honest, whoever came up with the idea of “having it all together” clearly never tried to cook dinner, finish a work deadline, answer 32 unread WhatsApps, and meditate in the same lifetime.

We chase this mythical creature called balance like it’s hiding behind the laundry basket. If only we could find it! But the truth is, balance is not a permanent state. It’s a daily negotiation between your body, your emotions, your ambitions, and your peace.

Sometimes, balance looks like a green smoothie at sunrise.Other times, it looks like eating cake or fries with no regrets at 10 p.m.

And both are valid.

The Doctor Who Forgot to Breathe

I’ll confess… as a doctor, I’ve spent years telling patients to “manage their stress” while running on caffeine, adrenaline, and sheer willpower. (Irony deserves its own medical code, honestly and its own research paper.)Balance is not found in perfection; it’s found in pause. The kind of pause where you exhale and realise:

“Wait… I’ve been holding my breath since Monday.”

It’s okay to stop.To breathe. To reset. To let the laundry win today.

What Balance Really Feels Like

Balance doesn’t mean equal parts work, play, and kale. It means being present where your feet are. It’s permission to:

  • Say no without apology.

  • Rest without guilt.

  • Dream without deadline.

It’s the quiet power of asking, “What do I need right now?” and actually listening.

Today’s Reflection

Maybe today, balance means slowing down long enough to notice your own heartbeat and not your to do list.

So here’s your prescription:

  • One deep breath, three times daily.

  • Hydrate (with water or tea, judgment free).

  • Laugh at least once even if it’s at yourself.

  • And remember: you are not behind; you are becoming.
